American Built Clothing learns of t-shirts being made in Honduras and Nicaragua bearing the “American Built” registered trademark for sale at Walmart stores throughout the United States.
American Built, a registered trademark of parent company T-Shirt Mafia, an Idaho Limited Liability Company, is an American made and veteran-owned business. Initially started by two life-long friends, U.S. Marine veteran, Nicholas Carson is the majority member and operates the business full-time from its headquarters in Pocatello, Idaho.
A few months ago, American Built first learned that Walmart is selling shirts labeled “American Built,” which are not made by American Built Clothing or even made in America. After looking into it further, a large company called Hybrid Apparel is the supplier to Walmart of these shirts made in Honduras and Nicaragua and they are sold for around $5.00. Nick says, “It is a frustrating deal because we have a federal trademark registration on the phrase ‘American Built’ for its use on clothing and apparel. Plus we take great pride in selling American made apparel.” We have worked with Hybrid Apparel to stop the infringement of our brand name. However, there are about 85,000 American Built shirts that are not ours that have been purchased or available to the public and we want people to know that a veteran-owned company makes ours in America and they are not the same as the Hybrid shirts at Walmart. Consumers should be educated about what they are buying when a shirt says ‘American Built.’ Please look for our logo on apparel. You can see it at the top of this press release. It is a unique letter “A” surrounded by a circle of 13 stars. When you see our logo, you will know it is made in America and you are supporting a veteran owned business.” Also support the people and jobs here locally, buy American made. Not only look for our logo but check the tags and see where the items you are purchasing are made.
Nick joined the Marine Corps right out of high school. He trained to become a Marine sniper—a dream he followed since ninth grade. After three deployments — two to Japan and one to Iraq — he was wounded in service and received a Purple Heart. Nick healed and went through sniper school and advanced sniper courses but his injuries hampered his skill set. He received an honorable discharge and returned to his hometown of Pocatello, Idaho to be with family and run his American Built Clothing company.
“I had to fight to survive in Iraq and also compete with the best to become a Marine sniper. I have approached this situation with Hybrid Apparel no different. I will do what is best for American Built Clothing and use my gritty determination to grow my business and let everyone know what American Built stands for!” American Built Clothing wants to see everyone supporting the American Built cause. The next time you buy a t-shirt, tank top, hooded sweatshirt, or hat, make sure it is American Built. Buying American made and supporting a veteran owned business is about as American as is gets for apparel.
This summer would be perfect time to support American Built Clothing. You can buy online at AMERICANBUILTUSA.COM and follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
